About Chis and Poms

PERSONALITIES OF CHIHUAHUA & POMERANIANS:

Courageous and proud, the Chihuahua makes a great companion!  They tend to be a little strong-willed and love to cling close to their owner.  They love to lick, are intelligent, learn quickly, and need to be socialized at an early age.  They may be nervous at times, so they need plenty of tender loving care.  They are busy bodies and make a great watch dog (they think they are a doberman).  They will make a sweet, loving pet and usually live to be a ripe old age.

The Pomeranian is very lively and has a tremendous amount of energy!  They, too, are very intelligent and loyal to their family.  Poms have a tendency to bark at other dogs, but can be easily get along with other pets if introduced correctly.  They are alert and curious and very independent.  They hardly meet a stranger and have a wonderful, happy spirit that will make you laugh!

We strongly suggest that if you have small children in your home, that you consider another breed of dog or that you watch your children very carefully so they don't hurt your puppy.

HYPOGLYCEMIA (Low Sugar)

Signs of hypoglycemia include:  lack of energy, weakness, shivering, disorientation, stupor, "drunkedness", and even convulsions or coma.  Hypoglycemia occurs in many small breeds and can be controlled if you look for these warning signs.  Always have corn syrup or sugar available.  Pancake syrup, honey, or table sugar dissolved in some water will also work.  I use Nutrical - it can be bought at any pet store and usually does the trick.  I just put a small amount (about a pea size) on my finger and the puppy loves it and licks it off - usually twice a day should be sufficient.  Contact your veterinarian if the condition does not improve.
